Three Star win National Football League title
Three Star defeated arch rival Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) 2-0 to claim the National Football League title at Anfa Complex in Satdobato.Three Star defeated arch rival Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) 2-0 to claim the National Football League title at Anfa Complex in Satdobato.
In the final match of the league, a goal each from Afeez Olawale and substitute Bijay Dhimal gave the title to the Lalitpur-based club. The club also won Rs 10 million on prize money.
MMC won Rs 2.5 million after finishing third on the table. It was a woeful performance from the defending champions who had to win the game to claim the title for second consecutive year but rarely tested Three Star goalie Kiran Limbu.
Three players were sent off when a melee broke out among players in the last minute of the match. MMC’s Sushil KC and Moussa and Three Star’s goalscorer Dhimal were sent off by refree Laba Khatri during the tense final minutes.
Nepal Army Club finished second to win Rs 5 million.
Nepal Army’s Nawayug Shrestha won the best forward award. Shrestha had scored 14 goals in the tournament. Kiran Limbu of Three Star won the best goalkeeper award while his coach Rajendra Tamang won the best coach award. The best defender award went to Devendra Tamang of Jhapa XI while MMC’s Bishal Rai was declared best mid-fielder. Each players and coach were awarded with motorcycle.
