A total of 78 people have died in Kavre district alone following the floods and landslides caused by last week's heavy rainfall, according to the District Police Office, Kavre.

The office reported that the death toll reached 78 after the body of one person was recovered from Roshi Rural Municipality.

The most affected areas in the district include Panauti Municipality, Bethanchowk Rural Municipality, Temal Rural Municipality, and Mandandeupur Municipality, with the highest number of casualties reported in Panauti. Superintendent of Police (SP) Basundhara Khadka confirmed that 18 people died in Panauti Municipality.

In Roshi Rural Municipality, 13 people died, including 6 women, 3 men, 1 boy, and 3 girls. Similarly, 12 deaths were reported in Bethanchowk Rural Municipality, consisting of 3 women, 8 men, and 1 boy. Temal Rural Municipality also saw 12 fatalities, including 8 women, 3 men, and 1 boy. In Mandandeupur Municipality, 7 people lost their lives, including 3 women, 2 men, and 2 children.

“Other areas affected by the disaster include Namobuddha Municipality with 7 deaths, Dhulikhel Municipality with 2, Banepa Municipality with 3, Bhumlu Rural Municipality with 3, and Chauri Deurali Rural Municipality with 1,” Khadka said.

No human casualties have been reported yet from Mahabharat Rural Municipality, Khanikhola Rural Municipality, and Panchkhal Municipality.

According to Deputy Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki, 246 people have lost their lives to date with Kavre, Lalitpur, Dhading, Kathmandu, and Sindhupalchowk as districts with the highest tolls. Lalitpur witnessed 46, Dhading 39, Kathmandu 19 and Sindhupalchowk 10 death tolls in the last week's monsoon-induced havoc.
