Bhuwan Pathak of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has been elected Bagmati assembly speaker on Friday.
In an election held this afternoon, Pathak, a common candidate of the ruling alliance, got elected by obtaining 62 votes. A total of 39 votes were cast against the motion to elect Pathak as a speaker while seven provincial assembly members remained neutral.
A total of 109 members were present in today’s voting at the 110-member assembly.
Earlier, a motion calling to elect Shiva Raj Adhikari of the Nepali Congress as a speaker received 37 votes. Likewise, Srijana Saiju of the Majdoor Kishan Party managed to get three votes in her favour.
