Madhesh Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav and three new ministers took the oath of office and secrecy on Sunday.
Province Head Surendra Labh Karna administered the oath to Chief Minister Yadav before swearing in Jungilal Raya Yadav of the Nepali Congress, Kanish Patel of the CPN (Unified Socialist), and Mahesh Prasad Yadav of the Janamat Party as ministers.
Jungilal and Kanish took oath of office as ministers without portfolio, while Mahesh Prasad Yadav was assigned the finance ministry. The Maoist Centre and the Unified Socialist recently merged to form the Nepali Communist Party, though the change has yet to be implemented at the provincial assembly.
The chief minister is planning to expand the Cabinet after securing a vote of confidence at the provincial assembly. Province Head Karna appointed Krishna Prasad Yadav of the Congress as chief minister on Friday in accordance with the Article 168(2) of the constitution. Yadav must secure the trust of the assembly within 30 days.
Krishna Prasad becomes the sixth chief minister of Madhesh Province, following Lalbabu Raut, Saroj Kumar Yadav (Bara), Satish Kumar Singh, Jitendra Prasad Sonal, and Saroj Kumar Yadav (Mahottari).
