A father and son were critically injured after a group of robbers opened fire in Belha, ward 12 of Kalyanpur Municipality, Siraha, around midnight, police said.
Birendra Mahato, 50, was shot in the abdomen, and his 25-year-old son, Anil, was hit in the chest. Both were admitted to Birat Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar.
The robbers, eight to ten in number, reportedly arrived at the home of local Bhola Mahato around 12:30am.
When the victims tried to resist, the group opened fire, according to Ward Chair Dilip Yadav. Chief District Officer Surendra Paudel said police are investigating the incident. “The injured have been sent to Biratnagar,” he said.
