Four people were injured after they were attacked by a group at their home in Chadki Tole in ward of Mirchaiya Municipality, Siraha, on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred around 7:45pm when sharp weapons were used during the dispute, police said.
The injured have been identified as 60-year-old Shivanandan Yadav, his 57-year-old wife Durgi Devi Yadav, their 42-year-old son Jamahir Yadav, and 37-year-old daughter-in-law Rita Yadav. Rita, who sustained serious injuries, was referred to Janakpur for further treatment, while the others are receiving treatment in Mirchaiya.
According to police, the victims suffered cuts and bruises on various parts of their bodies. Police Inspector Santosh Budhathoki of the Mirchaiya Area Police Office said an investigation is underway.
Shivanandan, who is undergoing treatment at a local private clinic, said a group of about 15 to 20 people attacked them while they were at home, using khukuris, rods, and other weapons.
Police have detained four individuals—former ward chair of Mirchaiya-3 Hari Kushiyait Yadav, Kishor Dhurjhar Yadav, Ashok Yadav, and Jagdish Dhurjhar Yadav—in connection with the incident. They are residents of nearby Sisboni village.
Police said the attack followed a dispute between teenagers from the two sides earlier that day.
