One killed in police firing during clash over smuggling in Saptari

One person was killed after police opened fire during a clash with locals in ward 2 of Rajgadh Rural Municipality, Saptari, on Tuesday night.
According to police, the clash broke out after residents confronted a team deployed to prevent smuggling. Some individuals allegedly pelted stones at the officers, prompting police to fire several rounds in an attempt to bring the situation under control.
Lalu Yadav, a 36-year-old resident, was shot in the thigh during the incident. He was rushed to Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj, where he died while undergoing treatment.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Basnet, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Saptari, said one police officer was also injured in the clash. Police have seized several cartons of liquor that were allegedly being smuggled to India.
