Fish farmers from Ishwarpur Municipality and Chandranagar Rural Municipality of the district protested ‘high power tariffs’ by dumping fish on the road at Phuljor Chowk under the East-West Highway on Friday.
According to Manoj Aryal, mayor of Ishwarpur Municipality, who was also protesting along with the farmers, the protest was against the Nepal Electricity Authority, which they say has issued only industrial electric metres instead of normal or agricultural metres to the fish farmers, due to which fish farmers are forced to pay high electric bills.
The farmers completely blocked the Phuljor Chowk section of the highway for half an hour, disrupting vehicular traffic.
