Police in Birgunj have seized an ambulance of Tarai Hospital and Research Centre located in ward 13 of Birgunj Metropolitan City with an Indian number plate on Monday. 

The ambulance was being operated with registration in Nepal, police said. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Kumar Bikram Thapa, spokesman of the District Police Office, they also detained the driver, a 30-year-old Indian national, along with the vehicle. 

Police arrested the driver based on several complaints that the vehicle was operating recklessly in the city and rural areas of the district. Only after his arrest did the police learn that the vehicle was not registered in Nepal.

The driver and the ambulance were handed over to the Birganj Customs Office on Tuesday for further investigation and action, said Thapa.
