A nine-year-old boy died after falling off the roof of his school hostel in Rajbiraj on Thursday.
The boy, enrolled in second grade at the Paragon School in Rajbiraj-7, had been rushed to the Chhinnamasta Hospital but died shortly after, said Superintendent of Police Narendra Kumar Karki.
The victim had been enrolled at the Rajbiraj-based school on April 25. He had been sent home two days later after sustaining a foot injury.
The victim, who had returned to the hostel at noon on Thursday, fell off the roof of the three-storey building at 5:39pm.
It is suspected that the incident occurred when the boy was trying to look down from the third floor of the building, where guard rails have not been installed.
Guardians have blamed the irresponsibility of the school authorities for the victim’s death.
Further investigation into the matter is underway, police said.
