Sambhunath Municipality Mayor Jitendra Prasad Gupta has been suspended after a corruption case against him was filed at the Special Court on Wednesday.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority filed a case against Gupta at the court accusing him of taking a bribe.

The CIAA filed the case at the court after its investigation drew a conclusion that Gupta and the municipality’s engineer Ram Chandra Sah were involved in taking a bribe of Rs140,000.

The duo had allegedly sought illegal monetary benefits in order to endorse a bill for the payment of the construction of a school auditorium.

A team of CIAA officers from Itahari had taken Sah into custody on January 17, on charge of taking the bribe.

According to the chargesheet, the accused will be tried in court under section 3(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002.
