The Koshi Province government has been expanded after the chief minister inducted six new members into his Cabinet on Friday.
Koshi Chief Minister Kedar Karki appointed four new ministers and two new state ministers to expand his Cabinet after nearly four months of his election.
Province Head Parshuram Khapung administered the oath of office and secrecy to lawmakers Pradeep Kumar Sunuwar, Ram Kumar Khatri, Indira Thapa and Sunita Kumari Gurung of Nepali Congress and Rajendra Kumar Karki and Narayan Burja of the CPN (Maoist Centre).
Sunwar was appointed health minister, while Khatri was given the portfolio of the Industry, Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry.
Likewise, Thapa and Gurung have been appointed as the state ministers for Finance and Planning, and Internal Affairs and Law respectively.
Maoist Centre’s Rajendra Kumar will assume office as the minister for social development while Burja has been inducted as the energy minister.
However, Chief Minister Karki has kept the portfolio of financial affairs and planning to himself.
Karki was appointed the province chief on October 14, 2023, following the resignation of Hikmat Karki from the position, just ahead of the vote of confidence.
Previously, NC’s Shumsher Rai had been appointed as the minister for internal affairs and law while Ganesh Upreti of the Maoist Centre had assumed office as the minister for tourism and environment. Likewise, Kamal Prasad Jagebu of the CPN (Unified Socialist) was given the portfolio of the physical infrastructure ministry.
