Police have arrested a teacher from Gauriganj of Jhapa on charge of abetment to suicide.

The Gauriganj-based Gauriganj Secondary School teacher Pawan Kumar Das has been accused of ‘forcing’ a 17-year-old student to take her own life.

Das, on Tuesday, had allegedly physically abused the eleventh-grader for breaking the school rules.

The victim was found hanging in her room later that evening.

Das, who also held the position of discipline incharge at the school, has been accused by the victim’s family members of causing mental trauma to the victim by repeatedly chastising her.

The agitated family members and students vandalised Das’ residence on Wednesday.

The bereaved family had filed a police complaint at the Gauriganj Area Police Office following which Das was arrested from his residence.
