Province 1 Assembly is set to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the provincial assembly.
An all-party meeting under the chairmanship of Gayanand Mandal, the eldest member of the assembly, held on Sunday has decided to hold the election to elect the Speaker on January 12. The meeting also decided to hold the election to choose the deputy Speaker of the assembly on January 14.
According to provincial assembly secretary Gopal Prasad Parajuli, the meeting has also decided to postpone the assembly meeting scheduled for 1pm on Monday to 11am on Sunday.
As per Article 182 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal, a provincial assembly should elect assembly Speaker and deputy Speaker within 15 days from the first day of the new assembly session.
