Biratnagar

A provincial assembly lawmaker has drawn the attention of the Province 1 government regarding a border dispute between provinces 1 and 2 in Udayapur district.

Speaking at the zero hour in the Province 1 assembly meeting on Thursday, lawmaker Narayan Bahadur Magar said there was a border dispute over a plot of land that falls in both Udayapurgadhi Rural Municipality and Katari Municipality of Udayapur district.

According to him, Province 2 government claim that some land of ward No. 5 and 7 of Udayapurgadhi and ward No. 6 of Katari belongs to Siraha district. It is arguably the first incident when a border dispute issue between two provinces has been raised in the legislative body since the country adopted the federal ruling system with the promulgation of the new constitution in 2015.

Speaking at the assembly meeting, Magar claimed that the land revenue office of Udayapur issued the land ownership certificates of the disputed land. Stating that the people of the disputed area want to stay with Province 1, Magar suggested the provincial government resolve the matter accordingly.
