The meeting of the House of Representatives scheduled for Friday was postponed, as opposition parties remained adamant on obstructing the proceedings over the visit visa scam.

A notice from the Parliament Secretariat said the next meeting will be held at 1pm on Sunday. The meeting had been called for 1pm Friday but was deferred before it began.

This is the latest in a series of adjournments. Thursday’s session was initially pushed from 1pm to 3:30pm, but only began at around 5pm and was immediately disrupted by opposition protests.

Earlier today, a meeting of major opposition parties in the Federal Parliament concluded that the House of Representatives cannot run until their three previously stated demands are fulfilled.

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Manish Jha said that the meeting of the three opposition parties held today at the Parliament building in New Baneshwar reiterated the demand for a high-level investigation committee into the visit visa scandal and concluded that the House session cannot proceed unless the home minister resigns.

The opposition parties have demanded the formation of an investigation commission to look into the visit visa scam from the enforcement of the Labour Act, 2007, to the tenure of the current home minister.

Manish Jha said that a meeting of the major opposition parties—CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Swatantra Party and CPN (Unified Socialist)—reached this conclusion. He added that the meeting also decided to seek an all-party commitment to permanently resolve the issue.
