Police fire to detain Indian drug smugglers
Police said they were forced to open fire after the Alam brothers fled on a motorcycle when the police attempted to stop them for security check.Post Report
Police opened fire and detained two drug smugglers from Kumarkhod in ward 4 of Kankai Municipality in Jhapa district on Tuesday night.
According to the District Police Office, security personnel shot Anjar Alam, 28, and his brother Yusub Alam, 19, both from the Indian state of Bihar, as they attempted to flee. Anjar was injured in the leg and is receiving treatment at Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar. He is in stable condition and out of danger, according to the hospital officials.
Police said they were forced to open fire after the Alam brothers fled on a motorcycle when the police attempted to stop them for security check. Police seized 30.69 grams of brown sugar from them.
Investigation officers claimed that the Alam brothers have been involved in drug smuggling in Nepal for a long time.
