Woman who fled with handcuffs from Kailali arrested from India

A woman who had fled in handcuffs from the Government Attorney’s Office Kailali while in police custody on Sunday has been arrested in India and brought back to Nepal on Monday.
Mina Shahi Damai, 50, a resident of Ganeshpur Camp in Tikapur Municipality-1, had escaped while being taken for an extension of her remand. She was apprehended from Paliya, a bordering town in India, the Kailali District Police Office said.
According to Superintendent of Police Padam Bahadur Bista, chief of the District Police Office, Kailali, Damai was arrested on Monday morning and was being brought back to Dhangadhi.
The Area Police Office, Tikapur arrested Damai on April 17 on charges of human trafficking. On Sunday, she was taken to the Government Attorney’s Office for a remand extension, during which she managed to flee despite being in handcuffs.
Following the incident, the Kailali District Police Office suspended two police personnel for negligence. “Based on the recommendation from the Area Police Office Tikapur, Police Assistant Head Constable Chakra Adhikari and Police Constable Lokraj Joshi have been suspended,” SP Bista said.
Damai is accused of trafficking a minor relative to India.
