Prime Minister Oli announces plan to distribute sickle cell medication in Nepal

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced the government’s plan to import a sickle cell medication developed and tested in India and distribute it for Nepali patients, particularly benefitting the Tharu community, where the disease is prevalent.
Speaking at a function organised to mark the 13th anniversary of Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences on Monday, Oli emphasised the importance of dedication and integrity in achieving success, urging new medical graduates to prepare to assist in this initiative.
The prime minister, who is ex-officio chancellor of the university, also shared the government’s commitment to expanding medical student quotas and enhancing effective governance in the healthcare sector.
A total of 657 students graduated in the ceremony.
