Chitwan

Construction work on the Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-15, Chitwan, is progressing steadily, even during the Dashain festival. So far, 10% of the construction has been completed.

Bharatpur Metropolitan City has taken ownership of the project and is advancing the construction in collaboration with the federal and provincial governments after the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation was unable to continue the work. The project is being handled by ‘Himalayan Kalinchowk BBR JV,’ the contractor responsible for the construction.

According to Santosh Acharya, divisional engineer of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, the foundation work beneath the stadium’s parapet has been completed, and the top layer of the ground has been cleared to begin further work. Construction began in July, and the contract, worth Rs785.1 million, aims to complete the stadium by January 2027, according to Renu Dahal, Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

The federal and provincial governments have allocated Rs500 million for the construction in the current fiscal year. The work is being carried out in two daily shifts, and Mayor Dahal confirmed that construction will not pause for festivals. A technical team led by the city’s divisional engineer is overseeing the project to ensure smooth progress without disruptions.
