Nepali peacekeeper dies in Lebanon
Private Subash Thapa was found injured after inflicting a bullet injury from his firearm. He died in the course of treatment.Post Report
A Nepal Army peacekeeper serving in the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL) died on Thursday.
According to a statement issued by the Nepal Army on Friday, Private Subash Thapa, a local of Dolakha district, died after sustaining a bullet injury.
“Thapa was found injured after inflicting a bullet injury from his firearm in his bunker at the UNIFIL Headquarters while he was on standby duty,” reads the statement.
Thapa died in the course of treatment at the UNIFIL Level 1 Hospital.
Investigation is underway to ascertain the reason behind the incident. Officials suspect that Thapa may have been psychologically affected by the ongoing war at the Lebanon border area, where he was stationed.
Preparations are underway to repatriate Thapa’s body to Nepal.
