Sambhav Sirohiya has been appointed managing director of the Kantipur Media Group. A meeting of the KMG board on Monday decided to appoint Sirohiya to the position.
Sirohiya, who has been active in Kantipur Media Group for over a decade, is also its former CEO. He has the experience of leading different companies including those related to information technology.
Before Sambhav’s appointment to the post, Chairman Kailash Sirohiya also held the responsibility of managing director.
Chairman Sirohiya congratulated the new managing director and said Kantipur has reached its present position by working with a team spirit, adding it will continue in the future.
He mentioned that he would remain the guardian of the institution and urged everyone to work diligently under the new management.
Managing Director Sambhav Sirohiya assumed office soon after his appointment.
While taking charge, he expressed his commitment to ensure editorial independence Kantipur has maintained in its 30-year history.
“Editorial freedom is in Kantipur’s DNA. Whatever is in Kantipur’s spirit and soul will not change. Having spent 30 years in the Kantipur family, I am aware that editorial independence has played the biggest role for Kantipur to be in the current position,” he said.
“Editorial freedom will continue irrespective of a change in position.”
Sirohiya said there are multiple challenges in journalism and that the KMG leadership is there to overcome them.
“We have a responsibility to save not only our newspapers, radio and TV but also professional journalism,” he said. “The crisis in journalism should be overcome by analysing what is journalism for us, how the content is created and how it is used in the changed context.”
Sirohiya said the economic crisis has gripped national as well as international markets and that has badly affected the media. He committed to working to overcome the group’s economic hardships.
