Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has expressed his concerns over the rising negativity and pessimism in the society in recent times.
Speaking at the ‘Kantipur Economic Summit 2023’ organised by the Kantipur Media Group on Wednesday, Dahal said that people had been increasingly having a negative outlook on everything.
Such negativity and hateful perspective can demoralise the citizens and the nation at large, Dahal said.
“We face a conundrum about whether our tendency to look at everything in a negative light will hamper us. We have stopped looking at things positively,” Dahal said. “Such behaviour will affect the nation and the morale, self-confidence, and faith of the citizens, which will become a major problem in the future.”
Referring to the present situations in war-torn countries like Afghanistan and Ukraine, Dahal added that it is important to keep such situations in mind and take them seriously.
“The unnecessary amount of negativity will weaken the unity of the society and the nation at large. It will also discourage people from having a positive outlook on anything,” the prime minister added. “We must be thoughtful of how such unwarranted pessimism can lead the country to a downfall.”
Prime Minister Dahal also said that in recent times, development alone has not been able to satisfy the citizens. Citing the results of recent by-elections, Dahal said, “The development that I have brought to Chitwan and the Bharatpur Metropolitan City as a representative of the constituency in the past five years has been unprecedented and extraordinary. Yet, I have realised that people will not be satisfied by development works alone.”
Dahal also stated that he feared that Nepal had been affected by the power play and competition between the international superpowers. “Are we falling victim to the power struggle and competition between world superpowers? It is important that we, as responsible citizens, think about it.”
