Local governments in Sindhuli running safe motherhood campaigns
Cash incentives, ambulance service and medical discount to pregnant womenLocal units in Sindhuli district have launched several campaigns to aware pregnant women and postpartum mothers about safe child delivery and the ways to nurse their newborns.
The local units have also launched several schemes to encourage
participation of pregnant and postpartum mothers in these campaigns.
In Fikkal Rural Municipality, all women who give birth in health posts are provided with Rs 3,800.
“A large number of women in the rural municipality still do not visit health posts to give birth. The campaign is launched to encourage them to visit health posts,” said Parvati Sunuwar, deputy chief of the rural municipality.
The rural municipality also provides free ambulance service to pregnant women. The check-up cost is discounted by half if they take ambulance service.
Meanwhile, Sunkoshi Rural Municipality has launched a campaign where blue flags are placed in the homes of pregnant women, with a slogan
advocating for safe motherhood.Each pregnant woman visiting health posts for check-up is provided with edible oil and iodised salt for free.
Likewise, Golanjor Rural Municipality provides a discount in ambulance service for pregnant women.
“Our motive is to aware the women about the importance of safe birthing and motherhood and we take it as our responsibility to do that,” Sunuwar said.
