Chitwan District Court fined four persons, including two senior staffs of Hotel Meghauli Serai, over a mishap that electrocuted a rare one-horned rhino.
District court Justice Binod Kumar Gautam handed over fine of Rs 100,000 to Ritesh Bhatta while Dipu Sashi, Jiwan Mahato and Sunil Mahato with Rs 50,000 each on Wednesday. Indian nationals Bhatta and Sashi were the manager and nature guide of Hotel Meghauli Serai when the incident happened on August 6, 2016.
The rhinoceros was electrocuted when an electric wire was left unattended after wielding works of the hotel. Chitwan National Park had filed a case against nine individuals after the death of the rhino on August 21 of the same year. The court gave clean chit to five others.
The luxury hotel is nestled on the banks of Rapti River and rhinos frequently visit its surroundings for grazing.
