Rautahat boat capsize: Body of fifth missing person found

District Police Office, Gaur said the body of Indu Devi Kurmi, 45, of Tikuliya in Gaur Municipality-4, was found some 8 km downstream at Belghat in Shivahar District of India on Wednesday. Kurmi was returning home after collecting grass near Bakaiya River in the ill-fated boat.
Chief District Officer Govinda Prasad Rijal said the bodies of all five missing persons have been found.
“All five persons who were listed as missing by locals following the incident have been recovered from India,” said CDO Rijal, adding the Indian officials facilitated the search.
Earlier on Monday, the body of a 10-year-old child and Ushma Patel, who had gone missing following the incident, was found in JamunahaGhat, India.
Police said 24 people, including five women, survived the accident by swimming ashore and came in contact with the local administration.
Likewise, on Sunday, bodies of two Rautahat boat capsize victims Runa Devi Patel and Shanti Devi were recovered at Jamuwaghat area in India, nearly eight kilometers downstream from the accident site.
There is no bridge close to the area. A bridge project that began years ago remains unfinished.After the Saturday’s incident, the local people have demanded the authorities concerned to take action against the contractor, Pappu Construction, for abandoning the bridge project. The bridge was supposed to be completed a year ago.
