A Dalit ward member of Naraharinath Rural Municipaliy-9 in Kalikot district was beaten to death in her own house on Saturday night.

Police said 45-year-old Mana Sarki, who was elected the ward member of Naraharinath-9 on CPN-UML ticket, died after she was brutally attacked by three women from the same village.

The suspects, Rajinda Shahi, Srijana Shahi and Durga Shahi, have been arrested after the incident, police said.Mana’s body was taken to District Hospital in Manma for post-mortem on Sunday.A group of Dalit right activists have meanwhile submitted a memorandum to the District Administration Office demanding legal action against the three women and sufficient compensation to Mana’s family. Mana’s husband is in India for employment. She had been living with her six children.
