As the dry season approaches, the Chitwan National Park (CNP) has come up with various preventive measures to protect the wildlife from possible wildfire occurrence. 

The CNP has conducted controlled burning inside the park in a bid to thwart possibility of wildfire in different areas of the park, according to the assistant chief conservation officer, Nurendra Aryal. 

“We have finished controlled burning in different areas of the park, which could trigger fire in the dry season,” added Aryal. 

Besides controlled burning, the park authority is also constructing a fire line inside the park to control wildfire. 

“The fire line construction has almost completed. In case of fire, it will keep the park animals safe,” said Aryal.

The estimated length of the fire line is 80-km whereas its width is nearly five metres. The park official has said that constructing the fire line costs around Rs 12,000 per kilometre. 

“The fire line can also serve as a track for patrolling for security forces deployed inside the park. It can also be used as a jeep safari route for tourists visiting the park,” said Aryal.
