Some heavyweights of Democratic alliance have lost the election of House of Representatives. Nepali Congress senior (NC) leader Shekher Koirala has been defeated by CPN-UML candidate Lal Babu Pandit in Morang-6. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Democratic) leader Pashupati Shumsher Rana has been defeated by CPN-UML candidate Sher Bahadur Tamang in Sindhupalchowk-2. Tamang secured 38,401 while Rana secured 30,369 votes. Rana was backed by Nepali Congress.
Incumbent Minister for Information and Communication Mohan Basnet has been defeated by former Minister for Information and Communication Agni Sapkota in Sindhupalchowk-1.
Nepali Congress leader Nabindra Raj Joshi has lost election in Kathmandu-8 with CPN-UML candidate Jivan Ram Shrestha. Shrestha secured 13,397 votes while Joshi secured 12,953. In second Constituent Assembly (CA) election held in 2013, Joshi had defeated Shrestha.
NC senior women leader Ambika Basnet has lost election in Kathmandu-3. CPN-UML candidate Krishna Rai has won the election with 19,169 while Basnet secured 14,884.
