The Tharu Welfare Council, which is leading a struggle for a separate Tharu state, took out a rally at Nabalpur to press the government to include Nabalpur in Province 5. Nabalpur is a Tharu majority area, but it has been positioned in Province 4 according to the constitution amendment bill registered in Parliament for reconfiguration of Province 5.
The council leaders have said that the bill is aimed at separating the community that has been demanding a separate Tharu state from Chitwan in the east to Kanchanpur in the west.
Being a Tharu majority area, Nabalpur should be part of Tharu majority province, they demanded during the rally.
Ganeshman Mahato, chairman of the council, said the entire Tharu community will take to the streets if their demand is not addressed.
