On December 9, locals physically assaulted 32-year-old Pariyar of Sano Bangthali-7, and allegedly force-fed her human faeces tying her to a pole on the premises of Suryodaya Secondary School over witchcraft allegation. She was found dead in her house two days later.
The rights body has directed Nepal police to open investigation into the case as no one had lodged complaints with police. Nepal Police has taken four culprits into custody, the NHRC said, adding that it is investigating the matter from the human rights perspectives. It also expressed concerned about a delay for releasing a postmortem report. “NHRC wants the government and concerned authorities to fix the delayed system in time for some sensitive and controversial issues such as this,” it said in a statement, urging the government to bring those guilty to book and address concerns about security and compensation for her children.
