As part of the festival, the people of the community clean their houses as well as the wells, ponds and water sources in the neighbourhood. They also worship these water sources.
This annual festival is significant in that it teaches society the importance of conserving the water sources and keeping them clean. It also highlights the importance of water to life.
According to history and culture experts, although the exact time this festival started to be observed is not known, it dates back to ancient times.
