The convict identified as Amar Bahadur Bom, 38, a native of Dhari VDC in Darchula district, is being held at a Dubai-based jail for the last 12 years.
In a meeting with Foreign Minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly in New York, US, Foreign minister of UAE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan told that Nepali citizen Bom will get amnesty after paying the blood money to the family of murdered person.
According to Post representative based in New York, after raising the issue of jailed Nepali Bam Minister Abdullah assured of initiating the legal procedure as soon as the blood money is paid to the family of the deceased.
Bom had gone to Dubai on December 23, 2003, via Delhi to work as a migrant worker. He was taken by a proprietor of an Indian Marble Company with a promise of a good job. But he was held on the murder of Sarad Setthi, an Indian national, within a month of landing in Dubai.
Bam was convicted along with three Indians in the murder case that took placed at a club in Bur-Duabai. He was working as a private driver of two Indian businessmen. “Amar Bahadur was wrongly convicted of murder. He was not involved in the murder,” another Indian convict has been repeatedly saying in his statements.
