Many earthquake-affected families at Aambhanjyang VDC in the district have been living in unsafe houses.
They are living in houses that were damaged by the earthquake as they do not have any alternative shelter. However, the houses can collapse at any time.
Dhurba Adhikari, 42, of Devisthan in Aambhanjyang-3 has been living in his house though its walls have collapsed. “We lived in a tent for a month and returned to our own house though it is unsafe,” he said, adding that they have no money to build a new house.
Adhikari, who cannot stand and walk due to paralysis, said he is worried for the safety of his family and that the tent received from the VDC has already damaged.
He said his family has not received any aid from the government. Adhikari’s brother Ananta, who also has impaired legs due to similar condition, said his house
was also damaged by the earthquake.
Likewise, the eight-member family of Bishnu Prasad Lamsal is also living in a damaged house. They said they cannot even go upstairs as the house is about to collapse. “There’s no other shelter for us,” Lamsal said. Meanwhile, the quake-hit families in the area said they have not even received Rs 15, 000, which the government provided to build temporary shelter.
Local political activist Bidur Humagain said the government should provide the relief amount to the families so that they can build temporary shelter.
VDC Secretary Yubaraj Paudel said they will distribute relief amount after September 18.
Of the total 1,416 houses in Aambhanjyang, 756 were destroyed whereas 422 were partially damaged by the quake.
