Submitting a five-point memorandum to Minister for Education Chitra Lekha Yadav in her office on Monday, Pabson officials asked not to make any decision that would have long-term implications on the private sector, demanding that the existing legality of the private schools be maintained.

The private schools operators are against the government efforts to change the private schools into cooperatives.

The MoE has drafted a bill for new education act which envisions transferring the functioning modality of the private and institutional schools.

“We asked Yadav not to make any decision without the consent of the private operators. She has assured us to this respect,” said Chairman of Pabson Lachhe Bahadur KC.  

Pabson has also urged the ministry to introduce a new act for the private schools with the provision to give full leverage apart from curriculum, examination modality and monitoring.

According to Pabson General Secretary DK Dhungana, they also asked Yadav to develop a scientific system to fix school fees to get out of the current quagmire of students unions and “genuine necessity to raise the fee”.

He said they are against the agreement reached last month between Pabson and CPN-Maoist affiliate All Nepal National Independent Student Union- Revolutionary, arguing that it was signed under pressure.

The private schools had agreed to roll back the fee increment made at the beginning of the new academic session in April and adjust the difference into the next month’s fee.
