The hospital employees have taken to the streets since Tuesday, putting forth various demands including salary payments as per the separate senate meetings of the hospital held in 2070 B.S. and 2071 B.S.
The meeting held in 2070 B.S. had increased the salary of the hospital staff by 18 percent while another meeting in 2071 B.S. had hiked their salary by 10 percent.
As a result of the protest, people visiting the hospital from various districts for treatment have been affected badly. “I came here to receive urgent blood test report, but could not get it as the hospital remains shut due to the protest,” said Subhadra Adhikari from Dhankuta.
The agitators warned that they will continue to padlock the offices of BPKIHS vice chancellor Dr Balabhadra Prasad Das, Director Dr Arbindakumar Sinha, Registrar Tul Bahadur Shrestha until their demands are met. Das said that he urged the protesters to withdraw their protest as a committee led by former hospital vice chancellor Dr Sherkhar Koirala has been formed to look into their demands.
