Jimbu Thakali, a popular restaurant brand known for its authentic Thakali cuisine, is set to open its first international outlet in Gurugram, Haryana, India.
According to the company, the restaurant will begin operations on Friday at a commercial complex in Sector 65, one of Gurugram’s major commercial and entertainment hubs.
Founder Bibek Man Sherchan said the expansion into India is more than a business venture, describing it as the beginning of an effort to introduce Nepali cuisine, culture and hospitality to international markets.
He said the new outlet aims to offer Indian and international customers an authentic taste of Thakali food while providing an experience that reflects Nepal’s culture, hospitality and Himalayan lifestyle.
The restaurant will serve a range of traditional Thakali dishes, including the Thakali Khana Set, dhindo, buckwheat-based dishes, gundruk, sukuti, and specialties flavoured with Nepali jimbu and timur.
To preserve the authentic taste of the cuisine, indigenous Nepali herbs and spices, including jimbu and timur, will be sourced from Nepal, while fresh produce and other ingredients will be procured locally in India.
The company said the menu has been adapted to appeal to international customers by combining traditional Thakali dishes with a selection of popular Nepali delicacies. Offerings will include chatamari, bara, various varieties of momo, gundruk soup, sekuwa, and desserts made from juju dhau and khuwa yamari.
The restaurant’s interior has been designed to showcase Nepali culture and architecture. Nepali woodcraft, traditional patterned windows, artistic pillars and other elements representing Thakali heritage have been incorporated into the design.
By blending modern amenities with Nepali architecture and hospitality, Jimbu Thakali aims to provide customers with an experience that recreates the atmosphere of Nepal.
Sherchan said the decision to partner with Nepali brands and technology companies abroad was deliberate, demonstrating that Nepali businesses can compete internationally while supporting and strengthening one another.
Established in 2016, Jimbu Thakali currently operates four outlets in Nepal—in Kalimati, New Baneshwor, Jhamsikhel and Tangal. According to the company, the restaurant chain has served more than 2 million customers to date.
