The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Thursday confiscated documents related to the purchase of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine from the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.

Prem Prasad Bhattarai, chief at the Itahari chapter of the CIAA, said they seized the documents from the teaching hospital. A case was filed in the CIAA about irregularities while procuring the MRI machine. According to the complaint, the MRI 1.5 Tesla machine with a market price of Rs120 million was purchased for Rs180 million.

The BPKIHS had replaced its old MRI unit. Bhattarai said other files are related to the bidding process for equipment supply to the cardiology and oncology departments of the institution.

“I have handed over all the documents sought by the CIAA,” said BPKIHS Vice-chancellor Raj Kumar Rauniyar. He ruled out anomalies in the procurement.
