Kamal Dev Bhattarai’s ‘Sankramankaal’, a book that details political developments from the 12-point agreement to the recent Indian blockade, has hit the stores on Saturday.

Journalist Bhattarai’s book depicts contemporary political scenario in the country and tries to uncover the facts behind historical events like the 12-point agreement with the Maoists, dethronement of former king Gyanendra Shah and influence of foreign powers in Nepal.

“The book also explores why the first Constituent Assembly failed to deliver a constitution,” Bhattarai, who is the assistant senior sub-editor of The Kathmandu Post daily, said. “The book contains my first-hand experience while reporting on parliamentary politics and documents all major events like political agreements, historical breakthroughs and behind-the-scenes facts.”

Bhattarai’s book also delves into major political issues like the reasons behind forming a government led by the Chief Justice, the failure of political parties to unite, the electoral drubbing faced by UCPN (Maoist) in second Constituent Assembly elections, the promulgation of new constitution and Baburam Bhattarai’s Naya Shakti. The book brought out by Book-Hill Publications also details the latest Indian border blockade.

Commenting on the book, editor-in-chief of Kantipur daily Sudheer Sharma said, “The book is helpful in understanding the transition phase in Nepali politics that revolves around Constituent Assembly, peace process, establishment of republicanism and overall national politics.”
