A baby of a Nepali woman who was born on a moving train and fell onto the railway tracks has miraculously survived in Uttar Pradesh, India. The incident took place at the Tanakpur-Bareilly Passenger on Monday afternoon as the train was approaching Bhojipura station, as per reports in Hindustan Times.
The newborn girl of Pushpa, a resident of Kanchanpur in Nepal, who fell through a toilet, sustained only minor injuries, railways officials informed.
Pushpa felt signs of labour and went to the bathroom where she delivered the baby. The mother started screaming for help after her child slipped through the toilet upon which fellow passengers pulled the emergency chain and stopped the train and recovered the newly born from the tracks near the Bhojipura railway station and rushed her to hospital.
Spokesperson for the North Eastern Railway Rajendra Singh said, “The woman gave birth to a baby girl inside the toilet and the child fell on the rail tracks after slipping through the toilet outlet.”
Doctors at the government hospital said both the mother and child are out of danger. “The child has received a few minor injuries but is healthy. The mother too is healthy and we are planning to discharge them on Wednesday,” said Dr Saurabh Singh.
