Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has claimed that the ruling CPN-UML is not lending support for forming the Reconstruction Authority and taking ahead the constitution amendment bill to address the demands of agitating Madhesi groups.Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has claimed that the ruling CPN-UML is not lending support for forming the Reconstruction Authority and taking ahead the constitution amendment bill to address the demands of agitating Madhesi groups.
Talking to reporters at Tribhuvan International Airport on Friday before heading to USA for his health check-up, leader Koirala said, “Even the representatives of donor countries and agencies have been expressing dissatisfaction over the delay.”
He said that the problems of agitation in the Tarai/Madhes region should be sought through dialogue. He alleged that the ruling CPN-UML is being reluctanct to approve the two pending bill.
The former Nepali Congress (NC) led government had registered two bills at the parliament to address the demands raised by Madhesi lawmakers of the NC, CPN-UML, and UCPN (Maoist) through amendment. The bills seek to amend the constitution to ensure delineation of electoral constituencies based on population and proportional representation in each state organ.
The NC has decided to launch pressure campaign in the House session slated to begin on Monday, saying that the UML led government was dragging its feet to move forward the bills.
Koirala also expressed his dissatisfaction over the current government’s move to scrap the appointment made by previous government.
“We are ready to play the role of construction opposition. But they [CPN-UML] are trying to be disunited,” said Koirla. “It is the government’s role to create a favourable environment.”
Koirala, who is a patient of tongue and lungs cancer, will stay in the US for two weeks. He also urged the government to end the crisis as the result of India’s blockade.
