Several labour federations took out a rally in the Capital on Tuesday demanding trade union and political rights for the working class.
Thousands of people associated with Nepal Trade Union Congress, All Nepal Trade Union Federation, Confederation of Nepalese Professionals (CONEP) and National Employees’ Federation of Nepal marched from Bhrikutimandap to Ratnapark to press the Constituent Assembly to guarantee their rights in the new constitution.
Among their demands are formation of a labour commission, right to vote from their workplace, right to candidacy, definition of labour in the constitution, right to organise, collective bargaining and industrial action.
Senior Vice President of CONEP Premal Kumar Khanal said that their rally was meant to inform lawmakers of their demand and they will continue their protests till their demands are fulfilled.
