No risk of Kaligandai outburst flood: Home Minister
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bam Dev Gautam has said there is no risk of sudden flood due to the outburst of artificial dam created by landslide in the Kaligandaki RivIshwori Neupane
After observing the blocked Kaligandaki River at Mahavir of Ramche along the Beni-Jomsom road section on Sunday, DPM Gautam said, “As large mountain rocks have fallen into the river and blocked it, it is unlikely that the dam so formed will suddenly burst. But when the water level rises, it will start spilling out of the dam thereby posing threat to residents living downstream,” said Minister Gautam. “The people living in downstream settlements have already left to safer place,” he added.
Informing that the landslip has created a 60 meter high artificial dam in the river, Minister Gautam said, “It is difficult to break the dam and resume the flow of water because of continuous landslide.”
Nepal Army has set up its camp in the affected areas while the police have already moved the downstream residents to safer location, he informed.
