Oli made such remarks during a meeting of three political parties—Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist)—held at Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Thursday. According to a leader privy to the meeting, Oli said he will not seek apology from the Madhes-based parties until he is alive.
In a meeting held at Baluwatar on Wednesday, Madhes-centric parties had walked out of the meeting expressing dismay over “disparaging” remarks from UML Chair Oli on disputed issues of new constitution, mainly federalism. Oli had said,” “Do you want all of the plain land? In that case, do you also want to have UP and Bihar of India?”
The meeting of Madhesi Morcha held later after the Oli’s remark decided not to attend any further meeting unless the UML chair begs pardon for his derogatory remarks. The leaders from Madhesi Morcha did not attend today’s meeting.
Oli said he will not apologise to Madhesi front after the UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal communicated the message from Madhesi front seeking Oli’s apology.
Also today, another meeting was held between four major parties including Madhes-based parties after the Baluwatar meet with Constitution Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Nembang at New Baneshwor.
Talking to media after the meeting with Subas Nembang, Oli said that it was not him who insulted the Madhesi leaders but the Madhesi leaders insulted him. “I should seek apology?” Oli said expressing his surprise, adding,” I did not insult them, in fact it was they who insulted me. They have scorned my proposal.”
