PDCC to seek agreement on voting process
A meeting of PDCC decided to seek an agreement on the voting process to settle disputed issues in the constitution-drafting if political consensus was not possible to hammer out the matters.
It may be noted that political parties are still lingering on major contentious issues seen in course of drafting a new constitution and the Committee was formed to study about political disputes on the form of governance, restructuring of the state, electoral system and judiciary and make attempts for consensus.
The meeting concluded with the decision of making efforts for consensus till the last hours of deadline, otherwise seeking an agreement on the voting process, Committee President Dr Baburam Bhattarai said after the meeting.
In the meeting, three major political parties- Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) put their views for consensus. NC President and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and UCPN (M) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal represented the respective parties in the meeting.
On Wednesday, 23 leaders of various political parties put their views for a consensus on the major disputed issues. The Committee is to hold bilateral and multiparty discussions on the contentious issues throughout today.
The Constituent Assembly ( CA) has instructed the Committee to seek a solution to the problems till today, otherwise develop questionnaires about them and present them before the CA.
