IoM Dean appointment row: Writ filed to reopen TUTH services
A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday demanding resumption of the services at the TU Teaching Hospital that has remained stalled since January 13.
The writ filed by advocate Bishnu Prasad Timilsena argues that the closure of the services of the hospital by TUTH staffers in support of the ongoing hunger strike by Dr Govinda KC has deprived the people of essential health services.
It may be noted that Dr KC has been staging a fast-unto-death strike inside the TUTH premises protesting against the appointment of new Dean at the Institute of Medicine (IoM).
The petitioner has demanded an interim order asking the hospital authorities to resume all services of the hospital within an hour of such an order from the apex court.
The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Health and Population, the Home Ministry, the Ministry of Education and Nepal Medical Association have been named as defendants in the writ that also calls for addressing the demands put forth by Dr KC to improve the quality of services at the hospital.
