Upper Dolpa police posts relocated after heavy snowfall
Temporary posts moved to district headquarters as extreme cold raises risk to personnel.Ramchandra Neupane
Seven temporary police posts in upper Dolpa, near the Nepal-China border, have been relocated to the district headquarters in Dunai following heavy snowfall and a sharp drop in temperature.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ruk Bahadur Khadka said the posts in Shey-Phoksundo, Chharka Tangsong, and Dolpabuddha rural municipalities were moved due to harsh conditions. “Most posts in upper Dolpa are temporary and lack proper facilities. With permanent buildings, police could stay year-round, but in temporary structures, extreme cold poses a serious risk,” he added.
Posts in areas including Dho, Nijal, Tinjhe, and Phoksundo were relocated, while three permanent posts in Saldang, Kagkot, and Lasyikyap remain operational year-round. Locals have raised concerns that moving posts seven months after they were first established last year has increased security challenges in the region.
