Four people trapped by rising waters of the Thuli Bheri river in Dhupichaur, ward 3 of Thulibheri Municipality, were rescued on Tuesday morning.
They had gone to collect firewood brought downstream by the swollen river when they were stranded between two strong currents. A joint rescue team comprising Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Army carried out the operation.
The rescued individuals have been identified as Lalit Bohara, 33; Nandaprasad Bohara, 26; Shyamlal Bohara, 37; and Lalkumar Budha, 35—all from Palang village in ward 6 of Tripurasundari Municipality.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ruk Bahadur Khadka said the rescue was launched after authorities received reports that the group was trapped by the surging river. Chief District Officer Rom Mahat led the team to the site.
“The strong current made the rescue challenging. Some of our personnel even experienced chest discomfort during the operation,” said Mahat.
With the water level continuing to rise, the administration has urged people living near the riverbanks to remain alert and avoid going near the river.
