Nepal reports 11,352 cases as rapid antigen tests added to daily infection tallies
According to the Health Ministry, the countrywide death toll has now reached 11,628 and the number of active cases stands at 47,929.Post Report
Nepal on Wednesday reported 9,502 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 877,717.
Similarly, 1,850 people tested positive in a total of 5,331 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.
As of Wednesday, 5,054,198 PCR and 901,333 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 18,078 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
In its regular situation report, the ministry did not mention the death toll over the past 24 hours. It, however, reported four Covid-19-related fatalities.
The countrywide death toll has now reached 11,628. The number of active cases stands at 47,929 and the rate of infection positivity is 52.56 percent.
According to the World Health Organization, if the positivity rate, or the number of tests that return positive for every 100 tests, is more than 5 percent, the pandemic is supposed to be beyond control.
According to the ministry, 818,160 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 613 of them in the last 24 hours.
Nepal, on January 7, had reported 24 new Omicron cases. Earlier in December, three Omicron cases were confirmed.
The Health Ministry said tests conducted on 250 samples from among the 1,146 infected in the Nepali month of Poush had shown S-gene dropouts. Gene-sequencing performed on 24 samples returned Omicron results in all of them.
Kathmandu Valley recorded 6,343 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 4,666 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 1,099 in Lalitpur and 578 in Bhaktapur.
In the past 24 hours, 597 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 325 in Madhes Pradesh, 7,224 in Bagmati, 608 in Gandaki, 505 in Lumbini, 44 in Karnali and 180 in Sudurpaschim.
On Wednesday, 169 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 28—eight in Province 1, 18 in Bagmati and two in Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.
Nepal on Tuesday reported 8,730 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and one death. Similarly,5,747 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and three deaths were reported on Monday and 4,961 new PCR confirmed coronavirus cases and three deaths were recorded on Sunday.
