Five people died in a landslide at Malika Rural Municipality on Tuesday.
According to Chief District Officer Chiranjivi Rana, the landslide triggered by incessant rainfall occurred around 6:30am at Ghanglepani of Ruma in the rural municipality burying two houses and a cattle shed.
Two sons of a local man, Gothe BK, died on the spot.
Likewise, the bodies of three people of the same family were recovered from the landslide debris by locals at around 12pm.
BK and his wife Gori BK sustained injuries and are awaiting rescue.
“The two injured who were being taken for treatment to another health facility have been brought back to the Ruma-based health post as landslides have blocked the roadways out of the village,” said Garbuja.
DSP Tilak Bharati, chief at the District Police Office, said bad weather has also hampered helicopter rescue efforts.
“Due to bad weather, we have not been able to send a helicopter to airlift the injured for treatment,” said Bharati. “The police rescue team has also reached the incident site after navigating through several landslides along the road.”
